Project 9: Clay Modeling
The goal of project 9 is to use expanding foam and modeling clay to make a mockup of something. I decided to make a Weighted Companion Cube because I'm a huge fan of Portal.
Fabrication
The first step was making the base out of expanding foam. I made a cube-shaped box out of cardboard to cast the initial block, and then I shaved it down and sanded it so I had a nice cube to work from. After that, I began to carve the details out of the sides.
After that I had to apply and sculpt the clay. It was a lot more challenging than I expected - adding a thick enough layer to sculpt took a long time, and as the clay hardened it became really hard to work with (and it hardened REALLY fast as it cooled down). Overall, this was one of the trickier projects to make, and I probably should have picked something simpler.
