Project 10: Final Project (go wild)
For our final project, we were allowed to do basically whatever we wanted. So I decided that I wanted a few things:
- I wanted to make a Christmas decoration
- I wanted to use up the extra card stock I bought for PS04
- I wanted to use Autodesk's 123D Make software
Design
I went through a few different ideas before settling on a snowman. It's an easy shape to make using CAD, and the generated shape wouldn't be too complicated to put together (provided I was smart about it).
Once I had decided on a snowman, the next step was to make a Solidworks model. It was actually a pretty easy shape - all three body parts and the hat were done with a single revolve, and the arms were just lofted circles. The buttons and the nose were actually the hardest parts. After that, I imported the model into 123D Make and turned it into a cutting pattern.
Unfortunately, the assembly pattern I picked turned out to be highly impractical to assemble, so I went back and re-sliced it, then rebuilt the snowman.
Here's the end result. I had to go back and glue some of the arm and hat pieces on (so it wouldn't fall apart when I turned it in), but otherwise it holds itself together and stands very well.
